Dicksonia antarctica are a native Australian fern commonly known as a Soft Tree Fern. They have large trunks covered in brown hairs and beautiful, large, green fronds which can reach a length of 3m, however in colder climates they are deciduous. While Dicksonia thrive in the wet, shaded positions of their natural habitat, they can also do well in drier climates. They make a great canopy plant for a shaded area of the garden, allowing other shade loving plants to grow beneath them, and even being used as a host for epiphytic plants such as Orchids, Staghorns and Birds Nest Ferns.
